Awareness track

1 of our 3 pillars of dedication includes awareness and advocacy. Tiles for Hope empowers students to raise public awareness about aging, neurodegeneration, and the systemic challenges facing older adults. Here, we aim to extend from service to broader social impact and amplify seniors’ voices.

Initiatives

Gray Matters

As part of our Civic Engagement and Awareness track, Gray Matters is our platform for essays, reflections, and reports on the social issues affecting seniors, from the gap in digital literacy to ageism. The name alludes to the “gray matter” of the brain (which symbolizes thought, intellect, and empathy) as well as the idea that gray matters as a subject of conversation and care.

In April of 2026, we will launch our inaugural Spring edition. Stay tuned!

Walk A Thon Event

In May of 2025, after a year of continuous volunteering, students in Rye launched their “Walk A Thon” team, where they mobilized peers in a public march around campus to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association of America.
